Late last year, the National Rifle Association’s lobbying arm published a Nixonian enemies list naming organizations and individuals that “lent monetary, grassroots or some other type of direct support to anti-gun organizations” or have otherwise backed efforts to promote gun safety. The list totals 506 names, including major medical associations, law enforcement organizations, former presidents and a long list of celebrities.
After reading the list, most honorable Americans would be proud to be on that list. The fact that the NRA has enemies is disturbing and their list is reason enough for most to discount them as a serious organization. When someone perceives you as "the enemy" when you don't think exactly like they do - any possibility of rational discussion and compromise is a foregone conclusion.
Guess who said these things after the massacre at Columbine?
"We believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally safe schools. That means no guns in America's schools, period."--And referring to just mentioning the word "guns" in a school ... "Such behavior in our schools should be prosecuted just as certainly as such behavior in our airports is prosecuted."
Who said this? NRA's very own Wayne La Pierre.
What changed you asked? A volatile Molotov cocktail evolved, its contents so rancid that nothing is beyond the pale of these right wing radicals. The contents of this cocktail: The GOP, The American Taliban [AKA Tea bagger society] and the almighty dollar of the gun lobby - you know the manufacturer of these weapons of mass destruction.
The NRA and LaPierre, like the old GOP, sold their souls to the beast - The beast being The Tea Party!
Some fun facts for the gun hugger:
FACTS ARE VERY FEW GUN HUGGERS KILL INTRUDERS |
It is not clear why the nation’s top gun organization feels so threatened by Art Garfunkel, for example. Or why Washington’s most heavily armed lobbyists fear a ragtag list of former talk show hosts, washed up actors and what appears to be the entirety of Frank Zappa’s progeny. Caution gun owners, beware! Both Boys II Men and N Sync are coming for your guns, and the NRA is very, very afraid.
