Samantha Bee examined the Evangelical movement’s controversial involvement in Republican politics during the last several decades.
Citing Ted Cruz’s complete failure to capture Evangelical votes, Bee continued with a look at Trump’s ridiculous pandering to Christians — using the Donald as a jumping off point to give the audience a history lesson on the religious right.

“To understand how we got there, we have to go back to origins of the new religious right… It wasn’t abortion that birthed the religious right. It was good old white Nativism and anti-government anger when the IRS challenged evangelicals’ god given right to go to school without black people.”
Bee also added a caution, before continuing, “Please understand when I say the religious right, I’m not talking about people of faith — hashtag #NotAllChristians — but a political movement to harness voting evangelicals to the conservative Republican cause.”
Former child star and heart throb of the TV show Growing Pains, Kirk Cameron, has apparently morphed into a giver of marriage advice that seems to come from a different decade.
The actor-turned-Christian evangelist had some of this advice this week, telling the Christian Post that women should “follow” their husbands’ leadership.
“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” he opined. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”
He added, “A lot of people don’t know that marriage comes with instructions. And, we find them right there in God’s word.”
Cameron has six children with his wife and fellow actress, Chelsea Noble, according to the Post.
This point of view isn't unique to Cameron, the Friendly Atheist points out.
“He’s only expressing what most churches still preach on a weekly basis, what has been the common theme of Biblical marriage for thousands of years, and is still part of most wedding ceremonies today, reminding wives to, ‘submit to your husbands in every way,'” Horus Gilgamesh writes. “Did the secular world really not have any idea that this type of inequality is readily taught in scripture and practiced in Christian households around the world?”
Cameron’s sister, Candace Cameron Bruce, also actively promotes the idea that wives should be submissive to husbands.
“The definition I’m using with the word ‘submissive’ is the biblical definition of that,” Bure, who starred in the sitcom “Full House,” wrote in her 2014 book. “So, it is meekness, it is not weakness. It is strength under control, it is bridled strength. And that’s what I choose to have in my marriage.”
Young Turks Ana Kasparian blasted republican lawmakers in Mississippi on Wednesday over the lengths to which they have gone to promote their “religious liberty” with the passage of HB 1523.
“Religious business owners in the state would rather lose out on business because they’re so hateful toward a specific group of people,” she said. “Think about that for a second. Just bake the fucking cake and shut the fuck up. Seriously, why is it such a big deal? What’s gonna happen? Do you think that as you’re in the process of blending your ingredients, you might think about touching some other man’s dick? What goes through their minds? Just get over it.”

The law allows employers to cite “sincerely held religious beliefs” as the basis for implementing dress codes and other criteria in the workplace, and also lets businesses choose to refuse to render services to same-sex couples.
It has already provoked criticism both online and from the private sector, has also prompted three states to ban non-essential state travel to Mississippi.
“Here’s one thing that Republican politicians eventually listen to: businessmen,” co-host Cenk Uygur argued. “When corporate powers start telling you to bow your head, that’s what Republican politicians were made for.”
“And as we remember the gift of salvation on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, let us be so bold to ask the same,” Cruz said in a statement on Good Friday. Yet, on Easter Sunday, Cruz was singing a different tune, doubling down on his desire to “carpet bomb” the Middle East.
Fox’s Shannon Bream played a clip of former Sec. Hillary Clinton criticizing Cruz for his bomb-everyone-ask-questions-later foreign policy strategy, saying that the plan shows Cruz would be in over his head. Bream cited a CNN poll out earlier in March showing Cruz ranking fourth when it comes to America’s confidence in leadership on foreign policy. “So, as a first-term senator, as the secretary suggested, are you in over your head on foreign policy?” she asked.
Cruz’s first tactic was to blame the Obama administration, and Clinton along with it, claiming the United States has abandoned its allies. “This has been the most anti-Israel administration we have ever seen. And we have shown weakness and appeasement to our enemies,” Cruz said. He then attacked President Obama for visiting Cuba and working to lift the embargo on the country before criticizing the current anti-ISIS strategy.
“But we need a president who will bring the full force and fury of the United States of America to defeating ISIS,” Cruz continued. “Shannon, I’ll tell you, if I’m president, we will utterly and completely destroy ISIS. We will carpet bomb them into oblivion, using overwhelming airpower. We will arm the Kurds on the ground. We will use our forces to defeat them and we won’t put our forces in combat with the rules of engagement that Obama is so fond of that tie their arms behind their back that make it impossible for them to fight and win. That is wrong and that is immoral.
“If and when we use military force, we will use it to win, to defeat our enemies with overwhelming force and then we’ll get the heck out. We won’t engage in nation-building, but rather, we’ll keep America safe,” Cruz concluded.
In January, a Fox News host attacked Cruz for his “carpet bombing” strategy claiming it showed he had zero military understanding or experience.
Host Chris Wallace cited former commandant of the U.S. Army War College, Robert Scales, who argued that carpet bombing was “just one of those phrases that people with no military experience throw around.”
As Army Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, the general in charge of the campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) explained, “Indiscriminate bombing, where we don’t care if we’re killing innocents or combatants, is just inconsistent with our values.”
“And it’s what the Russians have been accused of doing in parts of northwest Syria,” he said explaining why Cruz’s strategy was wrong. “Right now we have the moral high ground, and I think that’s where we need to stay.”
“At the end of the day, it doesn’t only matter whether or not you win, it matters how you win,” he continued. “And we’re the United States of America and we have a set of guiding principles and those effect the way we as professional soldiers, airmen, sailors, Marines, conduct ourselves on the battlefield.”

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, who has campaigned on old-fashioned Christian values, has now been publicly humiliated amid allegations of an affair — and the release of an audio recording in which he is clearly caught in a compromised position.
The Birmingham News obtained a copy of a recording made of Bentley, capturing what appears to be excerpts from one side of a racy conversation he had with a woman on the phone. The recording is said to have been made by members of Bentley’s family, who were trying to find out whether he was having an affair.
Bentley’s wife filed for divorce last August, and the divorce was finalized in September.
Some excerpts:
· “So I mean, it was fine…he couldn’t tell who I was sending it to. And it didn’t say, ‘Hey baby, I love you so much and I’d like to spend the rest of my life with you.'”
· “You’d kiss me. I love that you know I do love that. You know what, when I stand behind you, and I put my arms around you, and I put my arms on your breasts, and I put my head… and pull you real close. “
· “Hey, I love that, too, putting my hands under you.”
· “I love you. I love to talk to you.”
· “But baby, let me tell you what we’ve gonna have to do tonight, start locking the door. If we’re gonna do what we did the other day, we’re gonna have to start locking the door.”
The release comes after Bentley fired the state’s law enforcement secretary, Spencer Collier, amid an investigation of wrongdoing in Collier’s office — after which Collier turned around and accused Bentley of having an affair with his senior political adviser, Rebekah Mason, and misusing a state plane to facilitate the relationship.
In a press conference Wednesday, Bentley admitted to inappropriate behavior, saying it took place two years ago: “Since that time I have apologized to members of my family, to Mrs. Mason and her family and I apologized then for any conversations and behavior then that was inappropriate.”
But, he said, there was no actual affair: “I want everyone to know though that I have never had a physical affair with Mrs. Mason. I can assure the people of Alabama I have never done anything illegal. I have never asked any member of my staff or any cabinet member to lie despite what the former ALEA secretary said today.”
For her part, Rebekah Mason is also denying that any affair took place — and she is accusing Collier of committing a gender-based attack against her.
“Unfortunately there are still some people who are set on hindering the ability of women to work in the political arena,” Mason said in a statement. “I am proud of what I have accomplished in my professional career. And I am grateful for the opportunities God has given me to serve our state.”
Evangelical faith healer Andrew Wommack warned women this week that they could have a miscarriage if they failed to obey God’s rules about being too emotional.
On the Wednesday edition of the Gospel Truth TV program, Wommack cautioned that psychology was in direct opposition to God’s teachings.
“They are dealing with things from only a physical, natural, humanistic standpoint,” he explained. “This is one of the reasons that people’s emotions are so messed up today is because instead of approaching it from God’s standpoint, where it says control your emotions, don’t let your heart be troubled, rejoice in the Lord always.”
According to Wommack, emotions were like a horse because “once you ever let a horse just go and get a full head of steam, the best thing for you to do is jump off.”
“Most people will get down and wallow in the unbelief and in the fear and all of this and they let things be conceived on the inside of them that they never intend to act out.”
The faith healer added: “Well, you’re either going to have to have a miscarriage or an abortion along the way. And neither one of those things are desirable. This is not the way God wants us to live.”
Wommack reminded his audience that Jesus ordered his followers to “be of good cheer.”
“That’s a command,” he insisted.
Congrats Andy, you are today's worst person of the world. Enjoy numbnutz!
Stephen Colbert harshly rebuked Republicans who are refusing to allow Syrians to seek refuge in the U.S. from their nation’s brutal civil war.
The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the GOP-backed American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act — or ASAFEA — to suspend Obama’s program to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next year and then intensify the process of screening them.
“Under the law (ASAFEA), no one with a name like that will be allowed into the country,” Colbert said.
He mocked Donald Trump, the presidential frontrunner, for suggesting that Syrians accustomed to “130-degree” temperatures would become angry if they were forced to live in colder climates, such as Minnesota.
“Yeah, it’s a tough call for the refugees — do I want to stay in a war zone where my family faces almost certain death, or do I want to go somewhere where I have to put on a jacket before I go to the mall?” Colbert said.
Every single Republican presidential candidate has spoken out against accepting Syrian refugees, and President Barack Obama ridiculed them for being as afraid of “widows and orphans” as they are GOP debate moderators.
“I don’t think the president is being entirely fair here — it’s not the little kids that concern the candidates, it’s adults who might come also,” Colbert said. “But since you brought it up, Mr. President, why shouldn’t we be scared of 3-year-olds? You think you can’t negotiate with terrorists? Try negotiating with a 3-year-old. They play hardball.”
Two candidates, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, have suggested limiting refugees to Christians only, saying that “there is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror.”
“That’s right, Christians have never committed acts of terror,” Colbert said, showing a photo of Ku Klux Klan members rallying around a burning cross. “I’m sure these guys right here are just campers roasting marshmallows. You can tell they’re campers because they’re each wearing one-man tents.”
Bush insisted that refugees should be able to easily prove they’re Christians, but he simply shrugged and repeated himself when asked exactly how they would do that.
“If you want to know if somebody is Christian, just ask them to complete this sentence,” Colbert said, quoting from Matthew 25:35. “Jesus said I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you — and if they don’t say welcomed me in, they are either a terrorist or they are running for president.”
Bill Maher slams and shames GOP Catholics and schools them on what Jesus really said.
Just as there are two Americas, Bill Maher argued Real Time last night that there are now two versions of Jesus on the political landscape.
While liberals were still worshiping the traditional version of Jesus, he said, Republicans had created “supply-side Jesus,” who he described as “a small businessman from Galilei whose main gripe is big government who wants to make Nazareth great again.”
“He’d love to help the less fortunate — but he’s got investors to think about,” Maher explained.
VIDEO COURTESY OF HBO
In that regard, he said, Republicans are more likely to worship someone like “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli, who infamously tried to raise the price of Daraprim, a drug used by both AIDS and cancer patients, to $750 a pill before finally reversing course amid massive public criticism.
But tactics like Shkreli’s, the host argued, are commonplace in the pharmaceutical industry, where cancer medication cost $10,000 a month.
“This cartel owns the US government every bit as much as Mexican drug lords own theirs,” Maher observed.
With that in mind, Maher said, Donald Trump is the perfect candidate for today’s Republican Party.
He says — he does — that his two favorite books are the Bible and The Art Of The Deal,” Maher pointed out. “Trump says one is about a perfect God who teaches humanity the right way to live. And the other is the Bible.

Anna Duggar won’t likely leave her husband despite his admitted cheating and will instead blame herself, according to a new report.
Josh Duggar, the former reality TV star and anti-LGBT activist, admitted Thursday to an addiction to pornography and infidelity after reports revealed he paid for two accounts on the adultery website Ashley Madison.
This comes three months after revelations that he molested four of his sisters and a family friend as they slept more than a decade ago, when he was a teenager.
A source told People magazine that Anna Duggar, who gave birth last month to the couple’s fourth child, would likely “absorb some of the blame” for her husband’s cheating.
“Anna will not leave him,” the source said. “As with her in-laws, she is turning more to her faith than ever. She and Josh are probably praying around the clock right now, I would assume.”
The 27-year-old Josh Duggar blamed Satan for building a “fortress” in his heart — but that statement, along with several others, was edited out of the confession he posted on the family’s website in the hours after it was originally released.
The source, who claims knowledge of the Duggar family, told People that Anna Duggar, also 27, would likely feel pressure from her in-laws, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, to shoulder some of the blame for her husband’s recent disgrace.
“Maybe not publicly, ever, but privately, there will be some suggestion of whether or not she should have been more aware of the pressures Josh was under, of the issues he was facing, and how she could have better counseled him or helped him,” the source said.
Her mother-in-law, Michelle Duggar, advises married women to have sex with their husband whenever he wants.
“Be available,” the 49-year-old said in an interview last year. “Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has. You always need to be available when he calls.”
The family’s popular reality TV show, “19 Kids and Counting,” was dropped by TLC in the wake of the molestation scandal, but the Duggars have been desperately trying to return to television in some way, according to reports.
That appears even less likely now.
The source said Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, who are part of the patriarchal Quiverfull religious movement, would be determined to make sure their son and daughter-in-law remained married.
“As for Josh, in this moment, I would assume he feels like his life is ruined,” the source said. “It will be such a steep and practically impossible climb to come back from this.”
A North Carolina teabagger told a religious gathering that his “primary mission” as a congressman was to promote the Gospel of Christ.
Rep. Robert Pittenger appeared last week alongside Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Louie Gohmert at the weeklong “Celebrate America” revival meeting in Washington, D.C., reported Right Wing Watch.
“The most important message that needs to be heard in this city is the Gospel and love of Christ,” Pittenger said. “This transforms lives.”
The congressman said he understood that recent “court rulings and unsettledness” had been painful to American Christians, but he urged them to promote their religious views to political rivals.
“I don’t hold fault with those who believe different from me – they just don’t know my savior,” Pittenger said. “They don’t know the one who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Pittenger said his chief priority as an elected official was to promote Christianity to voters and other lawmakers.
“That’s my primary mission as a member of Congress,” he said. “Yes, to serve my constituents, to serve my region, and my state, and my country — but we’re here as emissaries for Christ.”
The lawmaker drew gasps and then some delayed – but light – applause when he told the gathering that God loved President Barack Obama.
“God is working his heart, because we’re praying for him that he would know the love of Christ,” Pittenger said. “It transforms everything. It transforms everything we do and think and believe. I don’t care what issue that we work on in public policy and legislation, it all comes down to the reality of Christ.”
Texas pastor who thundered that he would “Burn, if necessary” to stop the Supreme Court from legalizing gay marriage, claims he was only quoting from an old spiritual and that he has no intention on setting himself on fire, reports the Advocate.
In — literally — a ‘fire and brimstone‘ proclamation, Pastor Rick Scarborough said he and his fellow pastors should band together to halt the growing threat of same sex marriage, saying, “We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary, we will burn.”
Twenty-four hours after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage, Scarborough explained that he wasn’t really going to set himself on fire — he was just using the words of a Christian spiritual to rally the troops.
“I made that comment to paraphrase a spiritual song, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in which the three were given a choice—to bow to the image of Nebucahdnezzar or burn in a furnace,” Scarborough explained .” ‘We will burn’ means that we will accept any sanction from the government for resisting [Friday’s] Supreme Court decision. We do not support any violence or physical harm.”
In Scarborough’s earlier speech, he also said:
“The preachers need to get out front, the leaders need to get out front, in front of these ordinary citizens and say, ‘Shoot me first.'”
Scarborough did elaborate on whether there would be a march against gay marriage and his comments condemning “violence or physical harm,” would seem to indicate that he may be no more willing to take a bullet for traditional marriage than he was to set himself on fire.
Just like a Conservative Family Values Christian, never can tell the truth and never ever follow through with their threats
Columnist Dan Savage pointed out on Thursday that Bristol Palin’s announcement regarding her second pregnancy will likely be treated more favorably by conservatives, compared to their usual rhetoric regarding single mothers.
“If Bristol Palin’s last name was ‘Obama,’ the whole Hee Haw gang at Fox News would spend half of every day for the next nine months telling us that Bristol Obama has terrible parents — ‘Maybe Michelle should be less concerned with what your kids are eating and more concerned with what her kids are doing!’ — and the other half of the day pretending to fret over the terrible example that Bristol Obama was setting for other African American women and girls,” Savage wrote.
Palin, who has made thousands of dollars as a pro-abstinence speaker, made the announcement on her Patheos blog, saying she was forced to do so by “constant trolls.”
“When life gets tough, there is no other option but to get tougher,” she stated. “I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you.”
Savage argued that Palin’s announcement exposed her hypocrisy regarding marriage equality, since she has criticizedPresident Barack Obama for not explaining to his daughters that “in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.”
“Both probably have friends with gay and lesbian parents — they live in the White House, after all, and they go to Sidwell Friends — but seeing as Obama was for marriage equality all along, it was Obama who shaped his daughters’ views on marriage equality and not the other way around,” Savage said. “So, hey, it looks like Obama was doing what you wanted him to do, Bristol: He wasn’t listening to his kids. He was shaping their worldview. Happy now?
It’s all fun and games until you’re the numbnutz breaking your own “Christian values”.
The Duggar family put locks on their children’s doors and put a stop to games like hide-and-seek after they found out that oldest child Josh Duggar had sexually molested four of his sisters, two of the sisters revealed Friday.
Jessa Seewald and Jill Dillard revealed to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Friday that they were two of Josh’s victims. The sisters spoke about the steps their parents took to try to minimize the risk of another molestation after they learned of Josh’s actions.
“My parents said, OK, we’re not going to do this hide and seek thing where two people go off together,” Jill said. “As a mother now, I look back and think my parents did such an amazing job…Not only taking care of Josh, but us girls.”
The sisters said that revealing themselves as Josh’s victims “wouldn’t have been our first choice,” but they chose to tell their story to Fox News after the story of Josh’s actions broke “to come out and set the record straight.”
Last month, news broke that Josh, the oldest of the family’s 19 children, had admitted to his parents that he’d inappropriately touched five girls. Josh committed the acts back in 2002 and 2003, when he was 14 and 15 years old, but the family’s patriarch, Jim Bob Duggar, waited for more than a year to report the incident to authorities. Josh resigned as head of the conservative Family Research Council’s lobbying arm late last month.
In the interview, Jill and Jessa said they didn’t know about the molestation's — which they said happened while they were about 12 and 10 years old — until their parents told them what had happened. Jessa said that the molestation amounted to “mild inappropriate touching on fully clothed victims, most of it while girls were sleeping.” She said that Josh’s actions were “very wrong” and “not permissible,” but she also defended her brother against some of the media’s claims.
“I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist…I’m like, that is so overboard and a lie really,” she said. “In Josh’s case, he was a boy — a young boy in puberty, and a little too curious about girls. And that got him into trouble.”
Jill said that Josh also asked each girl to forgive him, and that she made the choice to do so.
The sisters’ interview came a few days after parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar also spoke to Megyn Kelly. In that interview, Jim Bob minimized the actions of his son, saying that what Josh did “was not rape or anything like that.”
“He had gone in and just basically touched them over their clothes while they were sleeping. They didn’t even know he had done it,” Jim Bob said. He added later that there “were a couple incidents where he touched them under their clothes, but it was like a few seconds.”
The Duggars have been strongly criticized for not reporting Josh immediately to the police and for downplaying Josh’s actions. Questions have also been raised about the Duggars’ homeschooling curriculum, the Advanced Training Institute (ATI). ATI has a lesson on Counseling Sexual Abuse, which includes a section titled “Why did God Let It Happen?” and lists “Immodest dress, Indecent exposure, Being out from protection of our parents, Being with evil friends” as potential reasons why the “defrauding” occurred. It’s not known whether or not the Duggars used ATI’s handout on sexual abuse to counsel their daughters.
Bill Maher is getting tired of conservatives and Wing-Nuts complaining about Christians being persecuted in America, despite Christians being a significant majority of the American population.
He ran through a series of quotes from 2016 candidates and conservative pundits decrying Christian persecution or attacks against the right. Bill O’Reilly said a few weeks ago that it’s open season on Christians and white men in America; Maher sarcastically pointed to “all those recent videos of police shooting unarmed white clergymen” as evidence.
VIDEO COURTESY OF HBO
And what set Maher off the most about these cries of Christian persecution is that he’s the only one they can really argue is doing it, and doesn’t want the credit going to anyone else for his efforts.
Maher demanded to know where the persecution is coming from. Maher went through a whole list of people and institutions the right claims is persecuting Christians and, one by one, said it’s just not happening.
CRAZY EYES MICHELLE DUGGAR FULL THROTTLE HYPOCRISY
During Wednesday night’s interview with Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar about their son Josh’s history of molesting his younger sisters, Fox News’ Megyn Kelley pressed the conservative couple to justify their advocacy against LGBT equality. Specifically, she asked Michelle about her robocalls against Fayetteville’s LGBT ordinance, in which she smeared transgender people as a threat to the safety of women and children. “How could you unfairly… compare transgender people to child molesters, suggest they are child molesters, knowing what you know about Josh?”
Michelle doubled down on her comments, erasing the very experience of transgender people’s identities by saying, “I think that protecting young girls and not allowing young men and men in general to go into a girls’ locker room is just common sense.”
Kelley insisted, “But this is different because you injected child molestation into it.” Jim Bob interrupted to clarify that Michelle said “pedophile,” which requires the perpetrator to be of a certain age, but Josh was younger — “a child preying on a child,” not a pedophile — so it’s not a fair comparison. Michelle then claimed that they were the ones being victimized by these charges of hypocrisy, explaining, “This is more about — there’s an agenda, and there’s people that are purposing to try to bring things out and twisting them to hurt and slander.”
What Michelle actually said last summer was that Fayetteville’s nondiscrimination order was that men — “yes, I said men!” — would be allowed into “women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas, and other areas that are designated for females only.” She referred to “males with past child predator convictions” — not “pedophiles” — who might “claim they are female” to enter women’s spaces. “We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child.” A transgender woman is neither a man nor somebody with a “preference,” and there has never been an incident of gender identity protections somehow enabling or protecting such predatory behavior. Since the Duggars waited well over a year to even report Josh’s behavior and because criminal charges were never filed, he has no “past child predator convictions” for his admitted past child perversion.
Kelley missed an opportunity to call out another example of hypocrisy from the Duggars’ past public statements. In 2002, when Jim Bob was running for U.S. Senate, he actually argued that rape and incest “represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes.” As part of his justification for opposing abortion even in cases of rape, he suggested, “If a woman is raped, the rapist should be executed instead of the innocent unborn baby.” Despite the fact that Josh inappropriately touched multiple young girls on multiple occasions, Jim Bob has yet to advocate for his son’s execution.
The Duggar’s are just another example of the hypocrisy that oozes from Conservative Christian Family Values.
SEXUAL PERVERT, AND CHILD MOLESTER JOSH DUGGAR HAS PHOTOS TAKEN WITH MAJORITY OF WING-NUT PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS
Wing nut conservative presidential candidate Mike Huckabee offered a full-throated defense Friday of the embattled Duggar family against the “blood-thirsty media” reporting on molestation claims involving their eldest son.
“No one needs to defend Josh’s actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he shamed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family’s authenticity and humility,” said Huckabee, a family friend and former Arkansas governor, in a Facebook post
Josh Duggar resigned his post Thursday with the anti-LGBT Family Research Council after admitting to “inexcusable” actions when he was 14 – described in police reports as fondling the sex organs of his younger sisters and other girls.
TLC has canceled all airing of “19 Kids and Counting” as the network ponders the show’s long-term future.
“Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things,” Huckabee said. “The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today’s blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one’s judgment is not mature.”
Jim Bob Duggar said he took his son a year after learning of the abuse to meet with state trooper and personal friend who gave the teen a “very stern talk” but took no official action, and the statute of limitations had run out by the time police investigated in 2006.
“He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities,” Huckabee said. “No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story.”
The former Fox News pundit questioned the motives of anyone unwilling to accept at face value the family’s claims that the sex abuse claims had actually brought them “closer to God.”
“Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims,” Huckabee said.
Huckabee repeatedly affirmed his love for the Duggar family and said their supporters should continue to stand by them.
“They are no more perfect a family than any family, but their Christian witness is not marred in our eyes because following Christ is not a declaration of our perfection, but of HIS perfection,” Huckabee said.
So much for conservative Christian family values. Remember Holly Fisher, the teahadist gun toting-bible toting star who found internet fame after several of her photos went viral?
HOLY ROLLER, ADULTERER AND GUN NUT HOLLY FISHER
There was the photo of her posed, gun in one hand, Bible in the other, in front of a flag (because "Who would Jesus Kill?") -- the photo that gained even more fame after it was juxtaposed beside an image of terrorist Sherafiyah Lewthwaite, in a strikingly similar pose. There was the photo of her at Hobby Lobby, wearing a "pro-life" t-shirt, to celebrate the Hobby Lobby SCOTUS ruling that allows companies to limit women's reproductive care options.
Eventually, this internet fame translated into real fame, and Holly's star seemed to be rising within conservative circles. And then the rumors started that this family values, god-and-guns-Merica-loving icon had actually been cheating on her military vet husband. With, of all people, another member of the patriotic, family-values crowd: Joel Frewa of Tea Party News Network.
Frewa has since stepped down from his post in TPNN, and Holly has issued a public statement on her Facebook page that details what she describes as "a loss of faith", leading to the affair.
I’ve been married since I was barely 20, most of that marriage was in the army life. With deployment, kids, career changes, etc. we’ve had our ups and downs, like most couples. In the overwhelming mess of the political spotlight and trying to find myself and where I belong, I actually completely lost myself. I lost my faith in my marriage, I lost my faith in this life that not only I’ve chosen for myself, but a life that I promote. Happy military wife with kids and church and happy, happy, happy. False. My life crumbled. My marriage crumbled. I lost my faith in God. I didn’t know where I was going to go next or what I was going to do. For a very short period in the middle of that, I actually believed my marriage was over and found someone else. Day after day, actually week after week, throughout the late fall, I found myself just trying to figure out what I needed to do to make myself happy and to get my life back on track. (emphasis added)
Now, to be fair to this dipshit, I don't care who Fisher sleeps with; it's her business. The only person who really has a right to be pissed at her is her husband, and he is standing by her. But her hypocrisy is pretty colossal, coming from a woman who has been so very vocal in trying to push her brand of morality, who has crowed loudly over the loss of women's rights because she sees those rights as contrary to her beliefs...and yet who acts in a fashion that is completely at odds with that moral code that she wants to foist on the rest of us.
But, really, it seems that in the conservative world, conservatives are the only ones who don't actually have to live up to conservative values. When they fail to live up to them - that is when someone catches them failing to live up to them (as happened here -- Fisher was at first pretty adamant in her denials) - well, Jesus stepped in and saved them, it's in the past and they're forgiven. For everyone else, of course, it's damnation and hellfire.
In the end, Fisher and Frewa are just the latest in an ever-increasing list of "family values" hypocrites, who piously push an ideology that they themselves are loath to commit to.
STEPHEN J. ANDERSON WORLDS WORST PERSON ON THE YEAR
'Conservative Christian' pastor prays for president's death, calls Obama's mother a whore.
Pastor [snark] Stephen J. Anderson unleashes his sermons at the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Phoenix, and he’s on a mission to spread the good word by calling on his congregation to pray for President Barack Obama’s death.
"BASTARD BARRY"
Such a warm, loving "Christian" spreading gods love - gives me Goosebumps he does.
I must have missed these passages in the Bible. It must be in the Republican Bible of Apocrypha, The Book of Asshole. Chapter Head up my own ass.3:25.
And you wonder why I despise "Christians" and why churches should not be tax exempt.
Why, because its against the law to preach from the pulpit - politics and be tax exempt. Baptists are not ranking high in the arena of IQ, as self evident from Pastor Asshole.
Stephen Anderson is a blathering archetype of the xtian death cult. Obsessed with reproductive organs and colored hominids. His very own existence, as grotesque as it is, is poignant in proving in WWJND [What Would Jesus Not Do].
Stephen Anderson, you are NFTOS yearly winner of "Today's worst person in world".
