"The Armor of Light"

A Christian documentary scheduled for release later this month, a pastor confronts the moral quagmire of a heavily pro-gun culture that is simultaneously pro-life.

The point is driven home by former GOP Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who illuminates a rather strange version of a faith that many have characterized as pacifist and charitable — a version that has nevertheless come to dominate right wing Christianity in the United States.

The documentary, “The Armor of Light,” asks whether it’s possible to be both pro-gun and pro-life, according to the website Addicting Info. The film follows Rob Schenck, “an Evangelical minister trying to find the courage to preach about the growing toll of gun violence in America.”

In one scene, Sarah Palin tells a cheering National Rifle Association crowd not to waste ammunition on a warning shot.

In the clip, Palin warns about efforts to “strip away our Second Amendment rights.”
“When pastors, preachers, bible teachers, ignore these questions, it creates a vacuum,” Schenck says in a voice over. “And other voices fill that vacuum.”
At this point Palin goes into a disturbing tirade about shooting first and asking questions later.
“Speaking of which, Joe Biden, remember this, telling women before an assault just to fire a warning shot,” Palin tells the crowd. “Just aim up in the air, that was his directive…Gals, you know that nowadays, ammo is expensive. Don’t waste a bullet on a warning shot.”

Schenck says he wonders about the “ethical dimensions of having a constant, defensive posture.”

The video then cuts to Wayne La Pierre fear mongering about how many threats there are in the world, including “terrorists, home invaders, drug cartels, car jackers, knock-out gamers, rapers, haters, campus killers, airport killers, shopping mall killers.”

The clip ends with Schenck pointing out, “And the gun is almost an invitation to give in to the temptation of fear. And fear should not be a controlling element in the life of a Christian.”

TEN COMMANDMENTS, AS WRITTEN BY THE CONSERVATIVE

REPUBLICAN GOD RONNIE "BONZO" REAGAN

Most humans with an IQ above one hold a firm belief that religion and politics should never be mixed. These are two subjects that by themselves are controversial enough, let alone mixing them together. Our Founding Fathers knew this, which is probably why they didn’t use the word “Christianity” even once in our Constitution.

Our First Amendment clearly states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” and individuals like Thomas Jefferson had several documented instances where they said there should be a strict separation of church and state.

Even within Christianity there are many different denominations, so if we can’t agree within the same faith on what to believe – who in their right mind would believe one faith should rule this country?

Conservatives often make a barefaced effort to inject religion into their policy making as much as possible. When it comes to economic policies they suddenly forget that Jesus Christ spoke out against greed and focused on the responsibility a society has to its poor, needy, sick and elderly - unlike the ilk of the conservative, where the motto is 'me', 'me', 'me' ita all about "me'.

Tin Foil Hat Society members are not actual Christians, they are a mix of political ideologies tossed in with a handful of passages from the Bible. Let’s be realistic — when it comes to the Bible, most of these so called Christians pick and chooses which passages they want to follow and which they don’t - much like the U.S. Constitution.

Listed below are what most intelligent Americans would explicate as - based on what the GOP currently stand for;

The Republican Ten Commandments:

Thou shalt worship no other Americans but Ronald Reagan.

Thou shalt pay no attention to the fact that tax rates have nothing to do with capitalism. Remember, we were in fact a nation based on socialism before 1980 when our savior was elected.

To speak ill of Ronald Reagan means you are not a real conservative.

Thou shalt honor Ayn Rand’s economic ideologies, but ignore the fact that she was an atheist who thought religious people were fools.

Thou shalt respect your mother and father by ensuring that we privatize Social Security and Medicare so that private corporations can profit from these programs.

Guns are the only means of salvation. Thou shalt live in fear every moment that someone is out to get you.

Though adultery and divorce are acceptable and frequent occurrences (especially in “strongly conservative” states), it is same-sex marriage that will ultimately destroy the traditional family and ruin the sanctity of marriage.

Women are to be treated as subservient to men. Their rights will be determined by panels consisting entirely of males as it is clear men know more, and are better suited to determine female equality and how to handle women’s health.

The poor are but leeches on society seeking a handout from everybody else. The rich suffer the greatest burden of all and it is your responsibility to ensure that the rich are properly taken care of, for they are the job creators.

Thou shalt remember that greed is good, the poor are lazy, gays are bad, women are wicked, Rush Limbaugh is a respectable citizen, Sarah Palin is intelligent and George W. Bush was a great president.

These “Ten Commandments” have been sponsored by the Koch brothers, big oil, Fox News, FreedomWorks and the Heritage Foundation. Any attempt to discredit this list of sacred rules is just a liberal conspiracy to destroy the United States of America.

FRED PHELPS NOW LEARNING WHAT GOD TRULY HATES

THE DISGUSTING POS NAMED FRED PHELPS

BREAKING: Hell welcomes its newest resident.

Wednesday night, anti-gay, military gravesite protester, and Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps passed away at the age of 84. His church’s rallying cry of “God Hates Fags” has long drawn the ire of people everywhere - all across the spectrum - his death only served to underscore this worldly unity of hate for this asshat.

Yes, Fred Phelps was the lowest form of human excrement to ever troll this earth.

The truth is, Fred Phelps made a lot of people angry. Not only the families of AIDS patients, but gay men and American soldiers alike - celebrities whose funerals he relentlessly picketed along with a few dozen members of his Westboro Baptist Church. As journalist Donna Minkowitz chronicled almost twenty years ago in Poz magazine, “harassing bereaved families is Phelps’s specialty.” “I love to use words that send them off the edge emotionally,” he told her, “There’s nothing better than that.”

Phelps’s early victims included not just AIDS advocates like Nicholas Rango (1993) and Randy Shilts (1994) and gay men of modest fame like composer Kevin Oldham (1993), but also anonymously harassed individuals like Kenneth Scott, a Topeka graduate student who died in 1992. Scott’s sister Sue Mee told Minkowitz, “When Kenny died, they came to the funeral with a sign that said ‘Fags=Death’ with a big smiley face,” and that years later, Scott’s family would still receive phone calls from random individuals asking, “Is this the house where fags live?”

Later, Phelps would broaden his grotesque trolling to include the funerals of slain US soldiers, whom he reckoned God had killed as punishment for America’s sexual immorality.

Phelps ranted on about God’s hate for fags, for America, for Muslims, for Catholics, gun massacre victims and US troops. If American exceptionalism is in some way an attempt to imbue the profane - Phelps merely reversed polarities, swapping in eternal damnation. To discuss Phelps as if he were a morally vexing and profound evil - is to kind for this disgusting prick, dignifying him with a complexity he lacked. His hatred was banal, his existence, a waste of human flesh.

May his judgment be harsh, and may his nasty soul burn in hell for eternity. Good riddance asshat, this world is much better with you gone.

HOLY SHIP

On Friday evening, Bill Maher‘s “New Rules” segment concluded with a lengthy evisceration against the arbitrary rules and customs set forth in the Bible, as well as some of the more unbelievable details religious folks still believe to be literally true.

Maher began the monologue by declaring that America is “stupid” because 60 percent of the country reportedly believes the tale of Noah’s ark is literally true. He went on to slam the film Noah as “floating giraffe crap,” but said it “must be doing something right” since it’s been condemned by both Muslims and Christians. And the fact that it might lose a lot of studio money, he joked, “may put it in hot water with the Jews too.”

That gave way to a rant on how the world is now four centuries removed from the scientific revolution, and yet we still find the Noah’s ark story to be entirely true, despite some of the more… unbelievable… details. Christians are mad about the blockbuster film, he noted, because it doesn't take the Bible literally enough. “They’re mad that this made-up story doesn't stay true to their made-up story,” he quipped.

But, really, Maher said, Noah’s tale is an “immoral” one because it’s about a “psychotic mass murderer who gets away with it and his name is God.” The Earth’s creator became so irate that he had created mankind so flawed, as Maher related, that he sent a flood to kill everyone, including babies.

“What kind of tyrant kills everyone just to get back at the few he’s mad at? I mean, besides Chris Christie,” he jabbed.

“Isn't life hard enough without making shit up out of thin air to fuck with yourself?” he later asked of religion’s arbitrary rules about food, clothing, and other material goods.

SNAKE HANDLERS VS FOOD HANDLERS

REPUBLICAN JESUS

Bill Maher's "New Rules" last night was a scathing examination of religious people who would love to do things like take care of the starving and needy - that is if it wasn't always for some personal conflict getting in the way.

Maher said these Christians should “just admit you’re selfish” and come to terms with the fact that their actions do not “mirror the spirit of Jesus.”

Maher ran the spectrum of "republican Jesus" ideology, from republicans pushing for more food stamp cuts, to a Christian family that left a homophobic note instead of a tip for their gay waiter. Maher said they repeatedly emphasized the line “not share” to show “they've really absorbed the message of Jesus.”

Maher mocked the Christian message of “I believe in charity, just not for people who need it” and concluded that “there’s always a good moral Christian to tell everyone you meet to fuck off and die.”

MAHER ON REPUBLICAN JESUS IDEOLOGY

This evolution of "republican Jesus" started when the Bible bangers started their "born again" nonsense. That stated, all you simply have to do is be born again - to receive your free get out hell card and to get into heaven. This was an abomination of Christ's teachings, which stressed love thy neighbor and aid the poor.

As always, when 'republican Jesus" rears his ugly head, I love to end with my most famous quote: I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. Mahatma Gandhi
