CHECHEN TERRORIST HAVE AL QAEDA TIES


While no official link has been made between the two [Boston Marathon bombers and Chechen Terrorists], we educate our readers on the deadly group known as "Chechen Terrorists".The terror going on in Boston has some terrorist overtones [while some aspects of the plot seem methodical, some seem down right stupid, such as the after effects of their destruction, no money, no car, no escape plan]. Each breaking story in Boston - or the surrounding towns of Boston, now details a methodical plan to impose terror on America. While the story has yet to come to a climatic end - we at NFTOS expose the background of the evil group known as the "Chechen Terrorist".

What you need to know:

Chechens are an ethnic minority living primarily in Russia's North Caucasus region. For the past two hundred years, they have generally been governed by Moscow, though they have had varying degrees of de facto autonomy. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Chechen separatists launched a coordinated campaign for independence, which resulted in two devastating wars and an ongoing insurgency in Russia's republic of Chechnya. Militants in and around Chechnya continue to agitate for independence, though the death of separatist leader Shamil Basayev in July 2006 weakened the separatist movement. However, violence in the North Caucasus has escalated since 2008, and Moscow experienced its most serious attack in six years with the bombing of a metro station in March 2010.


Who are the Chechens?

The Chechens are a largely Muslim ethnic group that has lived for centuries in the mountainous North Caucasus region. For the past two hundred years, Chechens have resisted Russian rule. During World War II, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin accused the Chechens of cooperating with the Nazis and forcibly deported the entire population to Kazakhstan and Siberia. Tens of thousands of Chechens died, and the survivors were allowed to return home only after Stalin's death.

Has Chechnya ever been independent?

Chechnya has experienced several brief periods of de facto independence. In January 1921, four years after the Russian Revolution, Chechnya joined Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, and Ingushetia to form the Mountain Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. But the following year, the Soviet Union seized control of Chechnya and turned it into a Soviet province called the Chechen Autonomous Oblast. In January 1934, Soviet officials merged the Chechen Autonomous Oblast with the neighboring Ingush Autonomous Oblast, largely to dilute each region's ethnic identity.

During World War II, as German forces moved into the Soviet Union and toward the North Caucasus, many ethnic minority groups subject to Soviet and Russian rule for generations seized on the opportunity presented by the war to try and break free. German forces never reached Chechnya, but Chechen nationalist Khasan Israilov led a revolt against Soviet rule which lasted from 1940 to 1944. After Soviet troops crushed the rebellion, Stalin accused the Chechens of collaborating with Nazi invaders. In 1944, Stalin disbanded the Chechen-Ingush republic altogether and forcibly deported the entire Chechen population to Siberia and Kazakhstan. Chechens were not allowed to return to their homeland until 1957, when Stalin's successor, Nikita Khrushchev, restored the province amid de-Stalinization.

What is the post-Soviet history of violence in Chechnya?

In the early 1990s, following the Soviet collapse, separatists in the newly formed Russian Federation Republic of Chechnya started an independence movement called the Chechen All-National Congress. Russian President Boris Yeltsin opposed Chechen independence, arguing that Chechnya was an integral part of Russia. From 1994 to 1996, Russia fought Chechen guerillas in a conflict that became known as the First Chechen War. Tens of thousands of civilians died, but Russia failed to win control of Chechnya's mountainous terrain, giving Chechnya de facto independence. In May 1996, Yeltsin signed a ceasefire with the separatists, and they agreed on a peace treaty the following year.

But violence flared again three years later. In August 1999, Chechen militants invaded the neighboring Russian republic of Dagestan to support a local separatist movement. The following month, five bombs exploded in Russia over a ten-day period, killing almost three hundred civilians. Moscow blamed Chechen rebels for the explosions, which comprised the largest coordinated terrorist attack in Russian history. The Dagestan invasion and the Russian bombings prompted Russian forces to launch the Second Chechen War, also known as the War in the North Caucasus. In February 2000, Russia recaptured the Chechen capital of Grozny, destroying a good part of the city center in the process, reasserting direct control over Chechnya. Tens of thousands of Chechens and Russians were killed or wounded in the two wars, and hundreds of thousands of civilians were displaced. Since the end of the second war, Chechen separatist activity has diminished, and the July 2006 death of separatist leader Shamil Basayev--in an explosion many see as the work of Russia's internal security services--seems to have stifled the movement. Since 2008, however, violence has markedly increased in the North Caucasus, according to a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Incidents of violence rose from 795 in 2008 to 1,100 in 2009, and suicide bombings quadrupled in 2009, the majority of which occurred in Chechnya.

Which terrorist groups operate in Chechnya?

Information about groups linked to the conflict in Chechnya is hard to confirm, but experts say the struggle is between local separatists--a loosely organized group with semi-independent commanders--and the Russian army. According to the U.S. State Department, the Islamic International Peacekeeping Brigade (IIPB) is the primary channel for Islamic funding of the Chechen guerillas, in part through links to al-Qaeda-related financiers on the Arabian Peninsula. The United States also defined the Chechnya-based Special Purpose Islamic Regiment (SPIR) and the Riyadus-Salikhin Reconnaissance and Sabotage Battalion of Chechen Martyrs as terrorist entities in February 2003.

Chechnya's long and violent guerrilla war has attracted a small number of Islamist militants from outside of Chechnya--some of whom are Arab fighters with possible links to al-Qaeda. Among the Islamist militants, the most prominent was Basayev, Russia's most wanted man. Basayev fought for Chechen independence for more than a decade, and was the mastermind behind the worst terrorist attacks on Russian soil. On July 10, 2006, Basayev was killed in an explosion in neighboring Ingushetia. His death cast doubt on the future of the Chechen separatist movement, and allegedly led to the surrender of five hundred militants. Four months later, Russian security forces killed Abu Hafs al-Urdani, the Jordanian-born commander of foreign fighters in Chechnya. Since then, violence in Chechnya has ebbed, though terrorism in the areas of Dagestan and Ingushetia has increased.

What major attacks are the Chechen groups responsible for?

The most notorious and devastating attack came in September 2004, when Basayev ordered an attack on a school in Beslan, a town in North Ossetia. More than three hundred people died in the three-day siege, most of them children. There were thirty-two militants, though only three or four were Chechens. All but one of the militants were reportedly killed during the siege. Since then, violence has generally targeted individual officials and government offices rather than large groups of civilians. Attacks include:

An August 1999 bombing of a shopping arcade and a September 1999 bombing of an apartment building in Moscow that killed sixty-four people. 

Two bombings in September 1999 in the Russian republic of Dagestan and southern Russian city of Volgodonsk. Controversy still surrounds whether these attacks were conclusively linked to Chechens. 

A bomb blast that killed at least forty-one people, including seventeen children, during a military parade in the southwestern town of Kaspiisk in May 2002. Russia blamed the attack on Chechen terrorists. 

The October 2002 seizure of Moscow's Dubrovka Theater, where approximately seven hundred people were attending a performance. Russian Special Forces launched a rescue operation, but the opium-derived gas they used to disable the hostage-takers killed more than 120 hostages, as well as many of the terrorists. Basayev took responsibility for organizing the attack, and three Chechen-affiliated groups are thought to have been involved. 

A December 2002 dual suicide bombing that attacked the headquarters of Chechnya's Russian-backed government in Grozny. Russian officials claim that international terrorists helped local Chechens mount the assault, which killed eighty-three people.A three-day attack on Ingushetia in June 2004, which killed almost one hundred people and injured another 120. 

Street fighting in October 2005 that killed at least eighty-five people. The fighting was in the south Russian city of Nalchik after Chechen rebels assaulted government buildings, telecommunications facilities, and the airport.

 An attack on the Nevsky Express, used by members of the business and political elite, in November 2009 killed twenty-seven people. 

In March 2010, two female suicide bombers detonated bombs in a Moscow metro station located near the headquarters of the security services, killing thirty-nine people. Islamist Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov claimed responsibility for the bombing; he had also claimed responsibility for the derailment of the Nevsky Express.

 Two days after the metro station bombing in March 2010, two bombs exploded in the town of Kizlyar, in Russia's North Caucasus, killing at least twelve people.Are there links between Chechen groups and al-Qaeda?

Experts say there are several ties between the al-Qaeda network and Chechen groups. A Chechen warlord known as Khattab is said to have met with Osama bin Laden while both men were fighting the 1979-89 Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Alexander Vershbow, a U.S. ambassador to Russia, said shortly after September 11, 2001, "We have long recognized that Osama bin Laden and other international networks have been fueling the flames in Chechnya, including the involvement of foreign commanders like Khattab." Khattab was killed in April 2002.

Zacarias Moussaoui, who was convicted for his involvement in the September 11 attacks, was reported by the Wall Street Journal to be formerly "a recruiter for al-Qaeda-backed rebels in Chechnya." Chechen militants reportedly fought alongside al-Qaeda and Taliban forces against the U.S.-backed Northern Alliance in late 2001. The Taliban regime in Afghanistan was one of the only governments to recognize Chechen independence.

NRA WINS OUT WITH COWARD-LESS SENATORS

President Obama tore Congress a news posterior for voting down a background check amendment that the overwhelming majority of Americans support [90% of Americans support background checks]. Speaking at the White House Rose Garden as the Newtown families and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords looked on, Obama stressed that he would continue to advocate for the measure, which fell four votes short of the 60-vote threshold:
“I’m going to speak plainly and honestly about what’s happened here because the American people are trying to figure out how can something have 90 percent support and yet not happen.”

“This legislation, in fact, outlawed any registry. Plain and simple, right there in the text. But that didn’t matter. And unfortunately, this pattern of spreading untruths about this legislation served a purpose, because those lies upset an intense minority of gun owners, and that in turn intimidated a lot of senators.”

“But the fact is most of these senators could not offer any good reason why we wouldn’t want to make it harder for criminals and those with severe mental illnesses to buy a gun… It came down to politics — the worry that that vocal minority of gun owners would come after them in future elections.”

“ I've heard some say that blocking this step would be a victory. And my question is, a victory for who? A victory for what? … It begs the question, who are we here to represent?”

“ I've heard folks say that having the families of victims lobby for this legislation was somehow misplaced. ‘A prop,’ somebody called them. ‘Emotional blackmail,’ some outlet said. Are they serious? Do we really think that thousands of families whose lives have been shattered by gun violence don’t have a right to weigh in on this issue? Do we think their emotions, their loss is not relevant to this debate?

“So all in all, this was a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

“You need to let your representatives in Congress know that you are disappointed, and that if they don’t act this time, you will remember come election time.”

It's time to hold our law makers accountable, to ensure that they have our voice at the forefront, not the voice of slimy nasty beast that is the NRA!

Let it be clear readers, this denial of fundamental democracy - namely the voices of the American people themselves - by virtue of the American Taliban filibuster, should give pause to everyone, whether they were in favor of the background check initiative, or not. If a 90% plurality cannot effect changes in the law, then we have to concede that we are no longer living in a democracy.

PHOTOS OF PACKAGE AND EXPLOSION AT BOSTON MARATHON

As of last night, there were three dead, 176 injured. Of the 176, 71 remain hospitalized, 24 in critical condition and of the critical at least two are confirmed to be children, one the sister of the boy who died - she has lost a leg.

Some have been trying to focus on the victims. But as information comes from both the officials and the world of social media some pieces are coming together - possibly.
The WHDH photos show what looks like a grocery shopping bag placed just outside of a barrier before and after what appears to be second the explosion. If this is the case it is surprising that no runners were seriously injured.

It is just haunting to see the innocent spectators in one image and then the carnage, the shoes, the blood, in the second.

If this is the bomb, it seems to different than the first explosion - the scene closest to the finish line across the street from the viewing stand full of VIPs. That explosion seemed to come from the inside the barrier, perhaps somewhere on the sidewalk.





And then there are the photographs released to agencies that show what appears to be a pressure cooker piece and an exploded backpack.

No official has confirmed that the bag in the WHDH photos actually contained a bomb. But if it did, could it have been just one person wearing a backpack and carrying a bag?







Suppose someone knows a friend, family member or neighbor who bought two pressure cookers lately? Do we tell someone? Is that typical? If I'd purchased two pressure cookers to can or whatever, I wouldn't mind a visit from the police or FBI.

As reported by WHDH, authorities have been asking anyone who was taking photos in the area, and not just photos of the explosion, but anytime before or after the explosions, to share the images with the FBI or local law enforcement:
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies repeatedly appealed to the public to come forward with photos, videos or anything suspicious they might have seen or heard.
"The range of suspects and motives remains wide open," Richard DesLauriers, FBI agent in charge in Boston, said at a news conference. He vowed to "go to the ends of the Earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime."

BREAKING NFTOS NEWS: John  King of CNN is reporting that a significant breakthrough is about to come in the bombing case. King has been hinting that the FBI knows who they are looking for.

Letter to White House Flagged, Hart Building Evacuated



NFTOS BREAKING NEWS:


A letter addressed to President Obama containing a suspicious substance was intercepted Tuesday by authorities at a remote White House mail screening facility, according to the Secret Service.

The letter follows the discovery Tuesday of a ricin-laced letter sent to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).

The federal court system failed the transparency test and underestimated projected costs with its five-year capital-projects plan, report finds.

This can't be the news South Carolina Republicans wanted to see weeks before special election.

Edwin Donovan, deputy assistant director of the U.S. Secret Service, did not identify the substance. However, he said the Secret Service is working closely with the U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI.

The substance was detected at a facility run by the Secret Service, Donovan said.

Also breaking: The first floor of the Hart Senate building was evacuated over a suspicious package.

Senate police say they have a suspect in yesterday's ricin scare.

RADICAL TEA BAGGER CLAIMS FALSE FLAG

In the wake of the latest terror event in our country, right-wing psychopath Alex Jones calls foul, or in the case "false flag".

While most observers are witholding judgment about what caused the two explosions at the Boston Marathon yesterday, right-wing conspiracy theorists already know what’s going on — the government did it and is going to pin the blame on them because today is Patriots’ Day, a special day in the militia movement.

Alex Jones, who has become the country’s preeminent conspiracy theorist, wasted no time. As with 9/11, Sandy Hook and other national tragedies, he sees the Boston explosions as a “false flag” attack committed by the government. The objective this time - Expanding the Transportation Security Administration’s reach to sporting events:










Jones then followed up on his tweet and expanded on his theories in a special webcast dedicated to the false flag conspiracy, claiming, "You saw them stage Fast and Furious. Folks, they staged Aurora, they staged Sandy Hook. The evidence is just overwhelming. And that's why I'm so desperate and freaked out. This is not fun, you know, getting up here telling you this. Somebody's got to tell you the truth."

Jones is well-known for pushing conspiracy scenarios. His rants and website have previously influenced right-wing dip-shit media figures like Faux News' Judge Napolitano and Lou Dobbs.

On his radio show, Jones speculated that it may have to do with the sudden drop in the price of gold, a favorite commodity of paranoids everywhere. “With gold plunging, what could this signify?” he asked rhetorically. He also noted that Boston has special significance in American history, and because it’s where one of the planes took off from on 9/11. “I said on air that they’re getting ready to blow something up. To fire a shot heard round the world like at Lexington and Concord, and then they do it at this same place on the same day!” he said.

POLL SHOWS VETS ON BOARD WITH GUN CONTROL



VETERANS ARE FOR STRICTER GUN LAWS


With accounts of accidental shooting deaths and injuries appearing almost daily, the question of irresponsible gun ownership is moving to the forefront of public discussion as the U.S. Congress continues to debate steps to reduce gun violence. A fascinating new poll by the Global Strategy Group for Vote Vets and the Center for American Progress Action Fund sheds some light on what veterans, those Americans intimately familiar with responsible gun ownership, think of the current state of gun laws in the United States. The short version: not much.

Only 7 percent of American veterans say they are very confident that those who have not served in the military take seriously the responsibilities that come with gun ownership (57 percent somewhat or very confident). By contrast, 46 percent of veterans say they are very confident that veterans in general take their gun ownership responsibilities seriously (92 percent somewhat or very confident):



Additionally, more than 8 in 10 veterans (85 percent) agree with the idea “that we can protect responsible gun owners’ Second Amendment rights while still making it more difficult for criminals and other dangerous people to obtain guns.” What do vets think about the gun violence reduction measures being discussed on Capitol Hill? Even though 50 percent of veterans self-identify as “conservative” in this poll, they are mostly all for them:
More than nine in 10 veterans (91 percent) support requiring a criminal background check of every person who wants to buy a firearm, including 74 percent who strongly support it.

Nearly all veterans (99 percent) support increasing criminal penalties for people convicted of illegally trafficking guns to criminals, including 91% who strongly support it.

More than six in 10 veterans (61 percent) support banning high-capacity ammunition magazines, including 45 percent who strongly support it.

Nearly six in 10 veterans (58 percent) support banning assault-style weapons, including 40 percent who strongly support it.

The message from America’s veterans is clear — other Americans need to take more responsibility with their guns and sensible gun measures are consistent with our constitutional rights.

WAR MONGERS


Bill Maher closed out his show tonight with a New Rule railing against the U.S. military-industrial complex for being so eager for a possible war with North Korea. Maher mocked the Korean leader as “Kim Jong Pugsley” and said he’s not really worried about North Korea targeting the U.S., but the war-hungry masses just itching to get into another war are a problem. Maher said that the U.S. has been at war for an insanely long percentage of its existence, and that it’s time to start defining “peace as strength.”

Maher likened going to war with the United States to getting drunk with Lindsay Lohan: we’re already in the car, so let’s go! Maher rattled off a list of wars the U.S. has been in just in the last few decades, acknowledging that while some of them were necessary, the U.S. needs to “look in the mirror and say, ‘maybe it’s me.’” He said that the war-hungry mentality needs to be replaced with promoting the idea of “peace as strength.”

"America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms," said Gadahn, "You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?"

RAND PAUL LIES OVER CIVIL RIGHTS ACT

RAND PAUL, LIAR OR JUST STUPID?


Remember when Rachel Maddow interviewed then-Senate candidate Rand Paul in 2010 over whether he supported the Civil Rights Act? It was one of the first times Paul got national media attention, since he admitted to having some serious issues with the landmark legislation. So it was with some shock that Maddow reacted to Paul’s claim during an event at Howard University yesterday that he “never came out in opposition to the Civil Rights Act.” Maddow slammed Paul for trying to run away from something she still remembers very well.

In case you forgot [as pointed out by Maddow] Paul had a somewhat awkward time reaching out to Latino voters in a speech at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce last month, only a day after the GOP released its “autopsy” report recommending they need to do better with minority voters. And Maddow pointed out how Paul had a similarly awkward moment at Howard, when his attempt to call out the crowd for not knowing enough about black history backfired.

Just a few mere weeks removed from the autopsy of the GOP - where the GOPers were to reach out to non-whities - the American Taliban has to wonder if Rand Paul should be the guy at the front of the line leading the party to it's newfound reconstruction program.

Rand Paul is either brain damaged beyond repair, or maybe he is a just special kind of stupid, either way, most Americans are not falling for his bullshit, especially Rachel Maddow.

The sad, soulless GOPers, morally bereft - they simply just can't help themselves, lying is in their blood, it's done automatically, and Rand Paul proves that pathological liar is a prerequisite to becoming a leader in the tea bagger organization.

To often is the case, that we find - that there is no pale beyond the GOP. Mitch McConnell is another tea bagger that can be added to this list!

On February 2, Mitch McConnell, the teapublican leader in the US Senate, opened up his 2014 reelection campaign headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, and in front of several dozen supporters vowed to "point out" the weaknesses of any opponent fielded by the Democrats. I was thinking, don’t you hate that awkward moment when you turn on CSPAN-2 and you can’t tell if you’re watching the Senate minority leader or a sea turtle? We know the feeling.
We first noticed the similarities while witnessing Sen. Mitch McConnell stick his neck out in the Senate. We’re just going to be blunt about this: the guy looks like a turtle.



Let's be real readers, mental instability is a prerequisite for the American Taliban. Mitch "turtle" [aptly named turtle for his unique resemblance to a turtle] McConnell is as deviant as they come. The turtle has never won a legitimate race without demolishing his opponent and is accustomed to the nasty politics of the rabid right! 

As for mental health care, at least Judd got some help - something the turtle never has done [but in much need of the services]. The turtle is a self-loathing GOP troll - and these type of GOPers are the most vicious and destructive people to ever hold office in our country.

STATES WITH WEAKER GUNS LAWS - MORE COPS LIKELY KILLED


POLICE MORE LIKELY TO BE SHOT BY STATES WITH LAX GUN LAWS


As Americans squabble over the outcome of gun safety legislation in the Senate reaches a fever pitch, Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu (D) has been quiet on where she stands. Her home state, though, exemplifies the real risk weak gun laws pose–not only to residents, but also to the men and women charged with protecting them.

Gun laws in Louisiana prevent the state’s law enforcement officers from doing their jobs, and put them at a much greater risk of gun violence. Last November, the state passed an NRA-backed ballot initiative that enshrined gun ownership in the constitution and removed provisions that prohibited certain individuals, such as domestic abusers and the seriously mentally ill, from carrying a concealed weapon. In March, a judge ruled that the amendment outlawed a “state statute forbidding certain felons from possessing firearms,” noting that “The courts cannot question the wisdom of fundamental law and frustrate the will of the people.”

This new law makes it easier for dangerous people to possess guns and endangers law enforcement officials. But Louisiana has long been a trail-blazer for weak gun laws. Prior to this amendment’s passage, the state denied giving law enforcement discretion when issuing concealed handgun permits and a slew of other weak regulations have ranked the state among the worst in the nation on key measures of gun trafficking as determined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

A new study released just last week by the Center for American Progress analyzed 10 key measures of gun violence and found that Louisiana is worst among the 50 states. Included in the report is a 50-state ranking of law enforcement officers killed by guns: Louisiana ranks second worst in the nation behind South Dakota.

The Newtown tragedy has alerted legislators across the country to up to the need for sensible gun violence prevention measures. Landrieu, recognizing the important role law enforcement plays, has said that “some of the most respected law enforcement leaders in our country are calling for commonsense reforms.” Among the most obvious and effective of these reforms is to require every gun buyer to go through a mandatory criminal background check.

Universal background checks, which enjoy support from 85 percent of Louisianans, would help prevent criminals and other dangerous people from having easy access to guns. And they would cut down on illegal gun trafficking by holding straw purchasers accountable for giving guns to criminals. But of course, the law must require the firearm sellers conducting background checks to keep a record; otherwise, law enforcement would once again be undercut by having no method to enforce the law.

The NRA often says that “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” But in states like Louisiana, no single group has done more than the NRA to put guns in the hands of bad guys. That puts the good guys with guns—like law enforcement officers—and good guys without guns at a higher risk. Universal background checks, as evidence has shown, are a meaningful and uncontroversial measure that would make all states a safer place and protect those charged with protecting us.

WAYNE LAPIERRE IS A CLOWN AT THE CIRCUS

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy (D) tore into the National Rifle Association during an appearance on CNN’s State Of The Union on Sunday. The NRA this week introduced its legislative response to the massacre in Malloy’s home state. Its plan focuses on arming school staff.

Malloy specifically called out NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre for his absolute opposition to commonsense gun regulations, including the new gun law just enacted by Connecticut. After watching a clip of LaPierre mocking Connecticut’s new law, Malloy shot back, “Wayne reminds me of the clowns at the circus. They get the most attention”:
"That’s what he’s paid to do. But the reality is is that the gun that was used to kill 26 people on December 14th was legally purchased in the state of Connecticut even though we had an Assault Weapons Ban. But there were loopholes in it that you could drive a truck through. This guy is so out of whack, it’s unbelievable. 92% of the american people want universal background checks. I can’t get on a plane as the Governor of the state of Connecticut without somebody running a background check on me. Why should you be able to buy a gun? Or buy armor-piercing munitions? It doesn’t make any sense. He doesn’t make any sense. Thus my reference to the circus."

Bring it back to reality. Why are they against universal background checks when 92% of the American public is in favor of them? If they can’t answer that question — and they can’t, Candy — What this is about is the ability of the gun industry to sell as many guns to as many people as possible even if they’re deranged, even if they’re mentally ill, evening if they have a criminal background, they don’t care. They want to sell guns.





Malloy then went on to say that there is “precious little” he can agree on with the NRA, and that the organization is coming “pretty darn close” to recommending that every single American carry a gun. He also pointed to a recent report by the Center For American Progress that shows states with weaker gun laws also have the highest rates of gun violence.

CONNECTICUT'S NEW GUN LAWS, WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW



On Thursday the General Assembly of the state of Connecticut — home of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre — passed what’s being called the “toughest” and most “far-reaching” gun legislation in the country. Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy signed the bill into law at noon on Thursday.

Here’s what you need to know about the law:

It has bipartisan support. Certainly more Democrats than Republicans supported the bill, but the vote in the state House was 105 to 44, with 40 percent of Republicans and 87 percent of Democrats voting for it. Earlier, the Senate voted with only 2 of the 22 Democrats opposing the law. Nearly half of Connecticut Senate Republicans voted for the measure.

It expands the state’s assault weapons ban. Connecticut already has an Assault Weapons Ban in place, but the new law will add over 100 new types of guns to the banned list. Among these is the Bushmaster AR-15 gun, which is what the Sandy Hook gunman used in his horrific killing spree. People who already own such weapons will be permitted to keep them, but must comply with new registration standards.

Magazine clips will be limited to 10 rounds. Connecticut’s new law will immediately ban the sale of any large-capacity magazine clips that hold more than 10 rounds. Gun owners who’ve already purchased high-capacity clips will be grandfathered in, but they register any extended clips they have, if they plan to keep them. And they can’t bring those bigger clips around with them; the new law requires that any extended magazines still on the market be used only in a private home or at a shooting range.

 All gun and ammunition sales will require a background check. Effective immediately, every single sale of a gun or of bullets in the state of Connecticut must include a background check. Universal background checks are probably the most widely supported measure in Connecticut’s new gun law; nationally, background checks have 92 percent support.

Mental health isn’t left out of the equation. Not every measure in the new law intends to regulate firearms; the bill also includes expanded funding for mental health research, and allows for greater training on mental health issues for Connecticut’s teachers. The bill also creates a council in the state with the express purpose of determining how schools can be more safe, and when mental health records should block someone from being able to purchase a firearm.

As was the case when both New York and Colorado passed new gun legislation, gun manufacturers are flexing their lobbying muscles by threatening to leave the state, and some firearm owners are mobbing stores to load up on magazines and weapons before the bans go into effect. But these two actions are not symbolic of widespread opposition. In fact, there’s a lot of support for stronger gun laws. Even hunting organizations are in favor of taking legislative action to prevent gun violence.

CONNECTICUT SETS THE BAR

GUN HUGGERS GET WAKE UP CALL B Y CONNECTICUT LEGISLATURE


Connecticut's lawmakers sent a message to gun huggers last night - and their decisions marks a line in the sand with both the NRA and those whom choose to hoard weapons, that this will ho longer be status quo for their state.

In the wee hours of this day Lawmakers in Connecticut’s House voted approve a bill that limits the capacity of rifle magazines to 10 rounds, requires background checks for all gun sales and grows the state’s definition of “assault rifle” to ban more than 100 different models across the state, including the one used in the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.

The vote passed Connecticut’s Democratic-controlled House 105 to 44, just hours after the similarly liberal Senate approved an identical bill, balloting 26 to 10. Gov. Dannel Malloy (D), who emerged as one of the nation’s biggest proponents of expanded gun control after the slaughter in Newtown, is expected to sign the bill into law later today.

Similar gun-control measures are supported by President Barack Obama and many congressional Democrats, who’ve been all but stymied by Republicans on even popular measures like background checks for all gun sales.
“The American public is calling for a comprehensive solution that not only addresses tragic school shootings, but also helps prevent the thousands of senseless gun deaths each year” The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence insisted in a prepared statement this week. “Expanding the background check program, which nine out of ten Americans support, is one place to start.”

Thinkprogress has a story on States with lax gun laws having a higher rate of gun violence. Do we really need to have a study on what we already know? With lunatics like Mike Huckabee suggesting that POTUS is "panning to grab guns and launch a Nazi-Like Dictatorship" it's no wonder gun huggers are in a frenzy, as this type of rhetoric sends the huggers into mass chaos. 




Gun lobbyist Dudley "do-right" Brown suggest it's "time to hunt Democrats" because back ground checks are just a step towards identifying gun owners so the government can seize their weapons. Personally I think it's time to put the NRA on the list of known terrorist groups.

CAN STATES JUST IGNORE THE US CONSTITUTION




The American Taliban in North Carolina thinks so.

The Constitution “does not grant the federal government and does not grant the federal courts the power to determine what is or is not constitutional” according to a resolution sponsored by North Carolina House Majority Leader Edgar Starnes (R) and ten of his fellow Republicans — a statement that puts them at odds with over 200 years of constitutional law. In light of this novel reading of the Constitution, Starnes and his allies also claim that North Carolina is free to ignore the Constitution’s ban on government endorsement of religion:
SECTION 1. The North Carolina General Assembly asserts that the Constitution of the United States of America does not prohibit states or their subsidiaries from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.

SECTION 2. The North Carolina General Assembly does not recognize federal court rulings which prohibit and otherwise regulate the State of North Carolina, its public schools, or any political subdivisions of the State from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.

This resolution is nothing less than an effort to repudiate the result of the Civil War. As the resolution correctly notes, the First Amendment merely provides that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,” and, indeed, the Bill of Rights was originally understood to only place limits on the federal government. For the earliest years of the Republic, the Bill of Rights were not really “rights” at all, but were instead guidelines on which powers belonged to central authorities and which ones remained exclusively in the hands of state lawmakers.

In 1868, however the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified for the express purpose of changing this balance of power. While the early Constitution envisioned “rights” as little more than a battle between central and local government, the Fourteenth Amendment ushered in a more modern understanding. Under this amendment, “[n]o State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States,” nor may any state “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” The Fourteenth Amendment completely transformed the nature of the American Republic, from one where liberties were generally protected — if at all — by tensions between competing governments to one which recognized that there are certain liberties that cannot be abridged by any government.

There is some academic debate about whether the architects of the Fourteenth Amendment intended the freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights to be applied to the states because these liberties are part of the “privileges or immunities” of U.S. citizens, or because they are liberties that cannot be denied under the Constitution’s “due process” guarantees. Regardless of the correct answer to this academic question, however, one of the most important judicial projects of the Twentieth Century was a series of Supreme Court decisions applying most of the Bill of Rights’ limits to state governments. This project completed the work the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment began nearly 150 year ago — reconstructing America as a nation that recognizes certain civil rights which no lawmaker is allowed to trample. The right to be free from government endorsements of religious is one of these civil rights.

So when Starnes and his colleagues lash out against this one freedom, they are not simply lashing out against some court decisions that they disagree with. They are rejecting the most transformative moment in American constitutional history and denying that their side lost the Civil War.

‘LITTLE GOTCHA AMENDMENTS’




The Kansas legislature is advancing an omnibus abortion bill that would, among other things, define life as beginning at conception in the state constitution and place unnecessary restrictions on abortion providers in the state. HB 2253 has already passed the House, and looks poised to gain enough support to sail through the Senate — but only after Republicans rejected several key amendments to soften the measure, including a provision to add exceptions for rape and incest to the state’s existing abortion restrictions. Top Republicans decried those provisions as “little gotcha amendments.”

Senators discussed the bill for more than two hours on Monday. There were several proposed amendments up for debate — a rape and incest exception, a provision ensuring that women won’t be prosecuted for using birth control even if the state officially redefines life with a “personhood” amendment, and a measure to remove HB 2253′s requirement that doctors tell women about a scientifically disputed link between abortion and breast cancer. All of them were rejected.
“These amendments are little gotcha amendments,” Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce (R)said during the floor debate. “I’m getting a little irritated at it.”

State Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook (R) explained she opposed the rape and incest exception because it would apply not just to HB 2253, but also to the existing abortion laws in Kansas. That means it would extend an exception in the cases of rape and incest to current state restrictions banning most abortions after 22 weeks, preventing private health insurance from covering abortion services, and requiring doctors to obtain parental consent before performing an abortion for a minor. “This language would completely undo 10 to 20 years of abortion legislation,” Pilcher-Cook said.

In fact, such an amendment wouldn’t “undo” state-level abortion restrictions at all. Exceptions in the cases of rape, incest, and preserving the life of the woman are still extremely narrow, and don’t change the fact that restrictions on reproductive care are still imposed on the majority of women. Those small exemptions have become somewhat of a national standard. The federal government, 32 states, and the District of Columbia all offer exceptions in the cases of life endangerment, rape, or incest in their bans on public funding for abortion. Americans also overwhelmingly support abortion access for victims of rape and incest.

But for Kansas Republicans, it’s too politically contentious to ensure, for instance, that a minor who has been sexually abused by a family member doesn’t have to seek parental consent to terminate a resulting pregnancy. “This is political hijinks,” Pilcher-Cook said. “We should be focused on the bill instead of trying to make political points.”

SINKING SHIP




Yet another story about a radical tea bagger who is laying claim that all immigrants - will be the demise of our great country.

Three days after one of the longest-serving House Republicans called Latinos “wetbacks,” a GOP Congressman told the New York Times that immigrants are sinking America and compared the undocumented population to water on a sinking ship.

Speaking to reporter Trip Gabriel, Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) [whom obviously didn't get the memocriticized lawmakers for heading “down the path of proposing some form of amnesty” and used the analogy of a sinking ship to argue that Washington should wait to reform the immigration system until the border is completely secure:
“Why are we even talking about a pathway to citizenship when our borders aren’t even close to being secure?” said Mr. Barletta, vowing to fight a plan that would allow millions of illegal immigrants to compete legally for jobs.

“Let’s not take on any more water on this sinking ship,” he said. “Let’s patch the holes. Then we’ll decide what do we do with all this water that’s here.”

In fact, the U.S. border is more secure than ever before, with border crossings falling to their lowest level since the Nixon administration. Border agents patrol every single mile of the border every day and the vast majority of the border already meets one of Homeland Security’s highest standards of security. Meanwhile, economists estimate that a path to citizenship could add up to $1.4 trillion to economic growth, result in a $791 billion increase to Americans’ personal incomes, and create 203,000 jobs over the next decade.

Barletta’s rhetoric come as lawmakers in the House and Senate prepare to unveil their immigration reform proposals, and Republicans try to soften their rhetoric in an effort to appeal to the growing Hispanic population. The congressman, however, has a long record of anti-immigrant positions. In January, Barletta suggested that Hispanics would never vote for teapublicans who don’t provide them with government hand outs and as mayor, passed measures to penalize businesses that knowingly hire, and landlords who knowingly rent to the undocumented population.

One lesson these douche bags need to learn is, that they better start cozying up to everything they hate, or it'll be a could day in hell before they ever occupy the White House again!

GUN BACKGROUND CHECKS ARE LIKE KNOWING WHAT AMERICAN'S EAT FOR BREAKFAST

No amount of stupidity can be defined by just one GOPer, and just when you think stupid has reached its acme, another republican dipshit steps up and proves us wrong.

And now enters NFTOS' "special kind of stupid" tea bagger of the day.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) compared universal background checks to the government spying on American eating and reading habits during an appearance on Fox News on Friday.

The conservative Tea Party favorite is part of a growing number of Republicans who have pledged to filibuster any gun safety package that includes the provision. The group claims that requiring private dealers to maintain records of the checks they conduct would lead to the creation of a government database or registry of all gun owners.
“The concern with those is that background checks in and of themselves aren’t going to work unless they are accompanied by some sort of registration system,” Lee said. The American people “are not really comfortable with the idea of the government knowing exactly what firearm they purchase any more than they would be comfortable with the government knowing when or how often they go to church or what they eat for breakfast or what books they are reading from the library,”

But this description is a gross misrepresentation of the legislation. Background check proposals being floated in Congress would require private sellers and buyers “to meet in person with a licensed dealer, where the dealer would check the buyer against the federal database for a fee.” The dealer would retain “a record of the sale” but would not send the information to the government, since current law prohibits the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from establishing a national registry.

The dealer record-keeping provision ensures that checks are in fact being conducted and would allow the entire chain of custody to be reconstructed in the event the gun is later recovered in a crime. Currently, 60 percent of gun buyers who shop at licensed gun dealers undergo background checks and the gun stores are “required to keep a basic record of the transaction.”

Would you like to watch human pigs squeal? Watch the below video. Since Jim Carrey released a video mocking the Guns Over People [GOP] - well, they have been like rabid dogs since the release - seething to pummel Carrey with words like, "pathetic", "sad", "Freak", "modern day bigot".

Carrey completely annihilates the GOP gun huggers society in the video, and righty so. As I said in the original blog regarding this story, comedy is truly the sweetest revenge.


COLD DEAD HANDS OUTPOURING




Carrey released a statement to the sniveling news group saying:
Since I released my "Cold Dead Hand" video on Funny or Die this week, I have watched Fux News rant, rave, bare its fangs and viciously slander me because of my stand against large magazines and assault rifles. I would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery. That would gain them far too much attention which is all they really care about.

I'll just say this: in my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue.

I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure.
I wish them all the luck that accompanies such malevolence.
