Saying a Donald trump presidential nomination will bring out “the unusual suspects” at the GOP convention in Ohio this summer, a Republican strategist said down-ticket candidates running for Congress will skip the convention altogether to avoid being linked to the controversial frontrunner.

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Ana Navarro — who doubles as a CNN analyst — told host Jake Tapper that a Trump nomination is “going to put a lot of us in a funky mood.”

“I think you’re going to have a bunch of unusual suspects at the convention if it ends up being Donald Trump,” she explained. “You know I’ve said that a Donald Trump nomination would be very bad for some of the senators, some of folks running statewide in some of the purple and blue states. People like nutter Kelly Ayotte and nutter Rob Portman. I’m not sure how much of the traditional Republican mainstream usual suspects who go to a convention you would see if that’s the case.”

Pressed by Tapper to predict whether candidates would avoid the convention, Navarro reiterated her point, adding Ted Cruz’s name for good measure.



“I think you’re going to see some of the folks running in blue and purple states running away from our nominee if it is Donald Trump, maybe even Ted Cruz,” Navarro asserted.

Let’s hope Navarro is correct and that Trump wins the nomination. Win-Win for everyone!

MADDOW’S “STAGE FRIGHT”

Rachel Maddow went from amused to alarmed on Wednesday as she highlighted several false claims by Republican presidential candidates during their debate a night earlier.

“It was that kind of night,” Maddow repeated, with growing frustration.

For example, Maddow noted, Carly Fiorina insisted she would bring back what she called the “warrior class” — former generals she said retired because they told President Barack Obama “things that he didn’t want to hear.”

After explaining that David Petraeus and Stanley McChrystal both resigned because each became embroiled in a controversy, Maddow played a clip of ex-Army vice chief of staff Jack Keane confirming to Fox News that Obama couldn’t have forced him to retire, because he served in George W. Bush’s administration and retired in 2003.

“This is freaking amazing,” Maddow said as she introduced Keane’s rebuttal.

The host also pointed out that, despite what New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie claimed, Obama did not “invite Russia into Syria” during his administration — Russia has actually had an outpost there for more than 40 years.

“Gosh darn you, Barack Obama, for traveling back in time and inviting Russia into Syria when you were 10 years old in 1971,” Maddow quipped. “That was so reckless.”

But she was less enthused after playing footage of Republican front-runner Donald Trump stumble through an answer regarding the country’s “nuclear triad.” For the country’s national security policy to advance, she said, both major political parties need to be skilled in the issue.

“Can the Republican Party hold up its end of the debate?” she asked. “What would the Republican Party become on national security after the disaster of Bush and Dick Cheney? Huge question. Huge, important question. Please, God, let this not be their final answer.”

In an interview with CNN, DeLemus emphatically said she’s never been into politics until now, because she believes everyone is “lying to me, straight to my face!”

“We’ve got people in positions of power who I know for a fact are liars. Liars!” she said. “I watch the TV — My president comes on the TV and he lies to me! I know he’s lying. He lies all the time.”

She said she doesn’t believe “any one of them” except Mr. Clownstick.

“I’m telling you, he says what I’m thinking!” she went on. “Never been involved in politics, never had an interest in any of it. Now suddenly, he is resonating. He is resonating with the people and he’s speaking our minds. Our minds!”

Please keep guns away from Susan, who is more frightening the ISIS! Maybe a straight jacket is in order for Susan?

LONE STAR LUNATICS

Daily Show host Jon Stewart slammed the wave of conspiracy theories surrounding the Jade Helm 15 training exercises, which have some people concerned over a “Texas takeover” by the federal government. Stewart said:

“You know who’s calling it a ‘Texas takeover’? Lone star lunatics. Dallas dicks, Houston assholes,” Stewart said. “There’s no Texas takeover. The United States government already controls Texas. Just borrow a textbook from a neighboring state — it’s all in there.”

While it was “adorable” for Gov. Greg Abbott to think that the state guard could pick a fight with the military and win, Stewart said, the exercises date back to at least 2001, when another Republican, George W. Bush, was president and Rick Perry let the operations continue without incident.

“It appears you are on the verge of being taken over by ISIS or the United States of America,” Stewart said. “So you have a choice to make. And when you make it, just remember — and I never thought I’d be saying this — what would Rick Perry do?”

Stewart also touched on the recent attempted shooting attack outside an anti-Muslim event promoted by Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), criticizing the attack without siding with Geller’s particular message.

“AFDI is a First Amendment group the same way people from Philly are sports fans,” he said. “Ostensibly, they like sports, but really they’re looking for an excuse to punch a stranger and pour beer on someone’s baby.”

Nevertheless, he argued, “It is not okay to shoot other people because you are offended by what they draw. Even if they drew it to offend you, no shooting of them. Never okay.”
